IAPSM and IJCM deeply grieve the loss of one of its eminent members. May the almighty give her departed soul eternal piece and the family the strength to withstand this loss.

Dr. B. Swarajyalakshmi, Former Professor & Head, Community Medicine, Andhra Medical College left for her heavenly abode on 13/10/21. She was the first female post graduate in Community Medicine from Andhra Pradesh and went on to attain Diploma in Maternity and Child welfare, Diploma in Public Health, MD (PSM). She was conferred FIPHA, FIAPSM, FAMS. She was an avid researcher and was pivotal in Identifying the Goitre belt in tribal Visakhapatnam and subsequently in setting up Iodized Salt units which resulted in a great decline in Iodine Deficiency Disorders in those areas. She was associated with several slum development projects in Visakhapatnam with ODA (present DFID) support. Post retirement she continued community service, working alongside Sight Savers International, UNICEF and ITDA Projects.
