Application of queueing theory has been attempted to improve the delivery of patient care services in the out patient department of the Paediatric hospital. Traffic intensity was observed to be 0.8788 with a mean waiting time of 23.93 minutes, indicating congestion and over crowding in the system. Situation analysis under different assumptions have been carried out.

Pulmonary Function Tests (VC, FEV1.0% and FEF25-75%) were assessed in shopkeepers exposed to automobile exhaust fumes near six traffic junction areas which had different concentrations of Oxides of Nitrogen (NO2) . The percentage of predicted value and the prevalence of restrictive, obstructive, both restrictive and peripheral airway obstruction were related with the levels on NOx exposure. Higher level of NOx was associated with restrictive and obstructive type of functional impairment. Smoking was shown to aggravate peripheral airway obstruction.

An epidemiological study was undertaken to study the incidence and distribution of orthopaedic manifestations of filariasis in an endemic area. A total of 207 cases were clinically examined and investigated. Patients were divided into three groups , viz., Group A: Orthopaedic manifestations with no history of filariasis . Group B: Orthopaedic manifestations with history of filariasis such as microfilaraemia or filarial fevers etc., Group C: Orthopaedic manifestations with chronic manifestations such as elephantiasis, hydrocele etc. To confirm filarial etiology, all the cases were examined for the presence of filarial antibody by indirect ELISA using wuchereda bancrofti microfilarial excretory- secretary antigen (wd Mf ESAg) . A total of 61 of 102 patients of Group A, 14 of 21 patients of group B, and 73 of 84 patients of Group C were positive for filarial antibody. This study showed the prevalence of filarial antibody in about 71.4% of various orthopaedic manifestations.

Serological survey of unvaccinated under-five children was undertaken in three different areas in the State of Himachal Pradesh. Seropositivity rate of 82.4% at 3 months of age, decreased to a level of 12.6% in the age group of 9 to 12 months. There was a gradual decrease in seropositivity during infancy with an increase after the age of one year. No significant difference between the three areas was found. With increasing levels of malnutrition the seropositivity decreased.
