Dr. Sriniwas S. Vaishya is conferred Padmashree award.

Dr. Sriniwas.S.Vaishya, one of the life member of our association has been selected this year for Padmashree award in the field of Medicine and Health care. Dr. Vaishya did his MBBS from Goa Medical College in 1973 and MD (PSM) from Government Medical College, Surat. He was born on 7 January 1947 in Mathura (UP). After the liberation from Portuguese rule, he became the first Director of Health and Medical Services of UT of Daman and Diu. He rendered services for 33 years and from the post of local officer went on to become the first Special Secretary of Health for Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. During his tenure, the health structure of these UTs' developed from negligible to highest level equipped with modern equipments. The infant mortality rate of Daman and Diu has come down to 14 per 1000 live births at par with the best performing states and UTs' of India. Dr. Vaishya has attended several hundred workshops, conferences and seminars including 8 international ones. Dr. S.S. Vaishya has been a life member of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM), and has been very active, in the activities of Gujarat Chapter of IAPSM. He was a great support in the organization of several state chapter meetings and the National Conference of IAPSM, held at Surat.

Families of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and Indian Journal of Community Medicine (IJCM) join Dr S.S. Vaishya at this joyous occasion and congratulate him on this achievement. Association takes the genuine pride in the fact that, by honoring one of its life member, Government has acknowledged the role of Public Health and the achievements, which can be made by its application.
